The Prelude has been giving me some fits lately with its power steering system. (I’ve grown to utterly hate hydraulic power steering.) I finally decided to take it on a back road run after running a few errands. That cured it. For the time being, at least.

Italian tune-up is best tune-up. Also, funny plate!

the paradox of project cars: driving to fix a problem will eventually break something else.

The proper Italian tune up has nothing to do with steering but in your case I’ll allow it.

What was wrong with it?

The power steering pump is whining, again. It stopped mid-beating.

Oof. Best of luck.

It leaked last year and I replaced the reservoir and hoses from the reservoir to the pump. It stopped for awhile but after I hit a pothole in the city last month it started again and I’ve noticed a small amount of fluid loss, but not at the pump or the reservoir. So it might be at the back of the hose where it meets the rack. I have another pump and hose but at this point I’m close to wanting to just take it out or convert to electric.

Quick tip for fixing power steering problems.
Step 1: Remove pwr steering pump.
Step 2: Loop rack inlet and outlet.
Step 3: Never worry about leaks and/or inconsistent assist.

That’s likely what I’m going to do. I’d rather switch to electric, but few Hondas and Acura’s with EPAS have hit the junkyard. Either way I can run a lighter crank pulley.

The auto rx will be the quickest fix you can do. As long as no lines are broken etc. I’ve used it on multiple engines, transmissions and power steering rack with great success.

I’ll check it out, thanks. I do need to see if the line or rack is broken.
